Located on Janpath Road, The Imperial is one of New Delhi’s landmark boutique hotels. RKA was entrusted with the complete architectural renovation of the property. Keeping in view the architectural heritage of Lutyens’ Delhi, the renovation was undertaken with careful attention to preserving the identity and character of the hotel. A few additional rooms and a swimming pool were also added as part of the recent development.

The architectural approach to the renovation focused on sensitive integration of contemporary requirements within a historically significant built fabric. Emphasis was placed on retaining the original architectural vocabulary, proportions, and spatial hierarchy while upgrading infrastructure and amenities to meet modern hospitality standards.

Additions and modifications were carefully planned to blend seamlessly with the existing structure, ensuring visual continuity and material harmony. Circulation systems were refined to improve functionality without disturbing the historic layout, while new interventions were designed to remain understated and respectful of the original design intent.

The addition of new guest rooms and recreational facilities was strategically accommodated to enhance the hotel’s offering while maintaining its boutique character.
